It was a lot like what I envisioned cabin ownership would be; wake up in the morning, work all day at fixing the cabin, go out on the lake for an hour, work some more, go to bed stiff and sore, wake up stiff and sore, work some more, pay money, and drive home!
Actually, it wasn't too bad. We drove up on Friday night after dropping Tyler off at scouts. They were going skiing at Giant's Ridge - a trip we've loved to volunteer for over the last few years, but decided to forego this year. Instead, Tyler went skiing and we drove up to the cabin. Friday night was mellow. We got up there around 8:30, read a little, and went to bed early. We woke up Saturday and got to work. We moved furniture, taped, and painted. I wasn't sure I was going to like the color Dar picked out - "Peace Of Mind" - at first glance it looked like "Rust" to me, but I must admit it looks pretty good with the woodwork and fireplace surround.
After painting all morning and into the afternoon we decided to take a break, so we walked out onto the lake. Most of the snow was gone, and it was easy to get around out there. The ice was rough. It wouldn't have been any good for skating, but great for hiking. Louis really enjoyed himself! He was running all over the place.

But it was chilly. It wasn't cold, but it was well below freezing, and the wind-chill was down there. We walked back to the shore and down to where the creek runs out of the lake. It still amazes us that every time we've been up there the creek has had open water. It must flow pretty fast through there because even when it was twenty below zero there was open water.
Saturday night we were both tired and stiff from painting and climbing ladders and stooping and stretching. We watched two great movies on Dar's computer in honor of Valentine's Day: Juno, and Lars and the Real Girl. Both well written, sweet stories. Then we hit the sack.
Sunday morning we groaned, got out of bed, drank some coffee, looked at the walls and decided that yes, it did indeed need a second coat! So after a quick breakfast we started all over again. I did the rolling and Dar did the finish and touch up. By the time we got done it was looking good . . . pretty darn good!
Before and After
Dan The Builder came over just as we were finishing up so we talked with him, gave him his last check, and sent him on his way. I gave the new carpet a quick vacuum, we moved the furniture back, we ate a quick lunch, and we were on the road for home.
Phase one complete. The remodeling is done, the painting is done, our next job is to hang Mortimer, find some beds, dressers, and chairs, and relax! Is such a thing possible when you own two properties? I guess we'll find out.
Don't forget to take our poll! Do you like the new look?

Your wife sure has great taste. Must be the company of friends she keeps.
